Helen Ryan, Director Hakata Holdings

Helen has over twenty-five years’ experience in the medical device industry. During her eight years as CEO of Creganna Medical the company grew five-fold, to become the largest indigenous medical device company in Ireland.

Helen now works with Irish companies supporting them to start and scale. She acts as a strategic advisor to Atlantic Bridge Ventures and serves as a director for CroiValve, OneProjects, Atrian Medical, Tympany Medical and Bluedrop Medical, in addition to Enterprise Ireland and the PM Group.

Helen has a Bachelor of Engineering from NUI Galway, a Masters in Project Management from the University of Limerick, and has completed a Senior Executive Programme at Stanford University.  Helen has received an honorary Doctorate from NUIG, a Life Fellowship from IMI, and is a fellow of the Institute of Engineers of Ireland and a member of the Irish Academy of Engineers.

Patrick Byrnes, CEO Croom Medical

Patrick Byrnes has more than 15 years of experience in the orthopaedic medical device industry and held various roles in process engineering and advanced operations at prominent American multinational companies such as Zimmer Biomet and Stryker Orthopaedics.

Patrick took up the position of CEO in Croom Medical in 2018, overseeing a team of over 180 skilled professionals dedicated to manufacturing orthopedic implants for the world’s leading orthopedic companies. Under his leadership, the company has achieved a threefold sales growth, maintaining a steep upward trajectory.

Patrick holds a Bachelor of Engineering degree from the Munster Technological University (MTU), a Master’s in International Business Management from University College Dublin (UCD), and Diplomas in Business Development and International Selling from Queen’s University Belfast (QUB) and Trinity College Dublin (TCD). He is also currently pursuing a Doctor of Engineering with the University of Limerick (UL).

A recognized leader in research, development, and innovation, Patrick has received numerous accolades, including Engineers Ireland Student of the Year awards in 2011 and 2013, as well as Enterprise Ireland’s Innovation of the Year award in 2016.
